Oil brokerage sold to the management

One of London’s, and indeed the world’s, leading brokers of gasoline, bio diesel and naphtha.

Both corporately and individually, Oil Brokerage Limited (OB), do exactly what they say they will do.

After over twenty years with Oil Brokerage, the founder, John Gilbert, decided that he would take retirement and move to Malta. Graham Cooper, his fellow director, joined him in 1994 and the two of them had developed the venture steadily over the years, expanding into new areas of business along the way.

John and Graham had planned meticulously for John’s retirement, ensuring that his operational role as a leading broker in his own right was gradually reduced over time and that staff were developed and recruited. Their aim was to ensure the continuation of OB’s reputation for the highest standards of service to their clients.

In tandem with the operational matters, John also required an exit from his shareholding in Oil Brokerage. Through a colleague, they made contact with Peter Counsell at Meta Corporate Finance, with a brief initially to provide assistance on value and possible deal structure. Meta’s role then expanded to the project management and execution of John’s exit and the consolidation of Graham’s position with new investors in a new corporate structure.

Peter Counsell of Meta Corporate Finance said, “I am delighted to have helped John and Graham throughout this transaction and to its successful conclusion.I feel that we have all worked together cohesively, with Meta concentrating on making the transaction happen and John and Graham concentrating on the business and its development. I look forward to assisting Graham and his colleagues with further matters as the group develop into different products and geographies.”

Graham Cooper said, “Whilst our day-to-day activities are all about securing transactions between buyers and sellers, we have not done this type of transaction before. Hence we are very grateful to Peter for his calm and experienced guidance in a number of unfamiliar scenarios.”

John Gilbert, a keen yachtsman, said, “Peter would be a good guy to have aboard in a force eight gale.”
