Experience & Qualifications

Kai has spent 25 years working in the chemical industry, starting as a researcher for a specialty chemicals company in Germany and continuing in the chemicals practice of management consultancy Arthur D. Little in Germany. In 2004, he moved to Shanghai, China, first taking the role of Vice President Asia Pacific for a chemicals-focused niche management consultancy before founding his own consulting company, Management Consulting – Chemicals, in 2009. As CEO of this company, he has worked on hundreds of projects related to the chemical industry in China for clients including both multinationals such as Altana, BASF, Brenntag, Clariant, Covestro, DuPont, LANXESS, and Chinese chemical companies such as Sinochem, Transfar and Wanhua. Typical projects include strategy development, M&A target search, and market analysis. He has authored more than 200 papers on chemical industry topics, primarily with a focus on China, and is frequently invited to speak about the Chinese chemical industry at events worldwide.

 Kai holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Hamburg (Germany) and a Masters in Economics from the University of Hagen (Germany), and researched as a post doctorate student at the University of Berkeley, California.
