Growing a Start-Up into a Business - Guidelines for the CEO

William (Bill) Surman, CDI Global North America, has published book and we want to congratulate him. The book “Growing a Start-Up into a Business - Guidelines for the CEO” is primarily about execution, making the right decisions at the right time. This book contains more than 200 insightful suggestions and exercises on how to best manage and grow your small business. None are particularly complex concepts to understand but many can be challenging to execute. These are straight-forward, practical suggestions on how best to handle situations with your people, your customers, and your products.

Bill has a diverse background as an executive and an advisor to small businesses on growth, financing and management initiatives. He also has extensive experience as a fractional and interim executive. As a senior partner with CDI Global, he advises businesses on mergers and acquisitions.

With broad experience across the securities industry, including mergers and acquisitions, Bill works with debt & equity capital formation, trading, capital markets and information technology systems. He has worked as an investment banker for Sucsy, Fischer and Company focusing on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions for the last nine years. His clients, ranging in size from middle-market to earlier stage, have been across a wide range of industries including, consumer products, medical devices, business process outsourcing, building products and specialized manufacturing.

Bill worked for eight years as Managing Director at Rock Island Securities, the second largest specialist trading firm on the Chicago Stock Exchange where he managed 12 roll-up acquisitions, designed automated trading and risk management systems and managed the client broker/dealer relationships. Previously he was the Chief Financial Officer of Andover Securities Corporation and the President of Redwood Trading. Earlier in his career he was the director of Marketing for the Chicago Stock Exchange and was the Chief Financial Officer of Transaction Services, Inc., a wholesale stock and option broker.
